A Soft Place to Land
A Steady Push to Grow
Meet the Owner & Operator of Spruce & Sparrow:
Chelsea McConaha, MSW, CSW, LCSW
I do what I do, because I’ve been where you’ve been.
I’m a therapist who believes that all therapists should go to therapy. I’m a therapist who believes in meeting each of my clients exactly where they are. I’m a therapist who does my own work so that I know what I’m asking of you when I encourage you to do yours.
Some things you may like to know about me:
I’ve been a practicing clinical therapist for over 9 years. Beneath the National Association of Social Workers, I am a Certified Social Worker, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and possess a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Social Work.
I love what I do & I consider it an honor to hold a sacred space for you. Operating my own private practice has been my dream for as long as I can remember, & I intend to do it for as long as I possibly can.
I honor all cultures, stories, spiritualities, identities, & walks of life in session, and I see clients ages 13 and older.
Outside of practice hours, I’m a wife, a cat mom, an owner of too many plants, a birder, a creative writer, an illustrator, an avid crafter, & a lover of art of all forms. My idea of a perfect day would include a hike to Red River Gorge, some Miguel’s Pizza, & a quiet evening of playing board games & listening to vinyls with my husband & cats.
I cater a melting-pot of evidence-based interventions & tools to your unique needs, strengths, & goals.
My primary goal is to create a safe space for you to process your emotions, grief, trauma, & identity struggles in collaboration with a wide lens of proven methods. I offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Strengths-Based Therapy, & Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. For clients interested, I also offer creative interventions that integrate your favorite mediums such as art, writing, music, culinary, crafting, ecotherapy, & endless other forms of expression to foster fresh-awareness & growth. I love helping all individuals uncover & nurture their identity beneath their learned behaviors, generational trauma, people-pleasing tendencies, & fight-or-flight brain patterns.
My purpose as your therapist is to serve as an empowering, insightful, hopeful, & nonjudgmental voice in your life. I aim to serve as a mirror that reflects your unsung capabilities while also equipping you with new strategies to add to your mental health toolbox. I want to hold you accountable with grace-filled & curious conversation while helping you learn how to do the same.
Regardless of what you’re presently surviving & coping with, this step you’re taking right now is incredibly insightful, important, and fortuitous. If you believe we’d make a good team in tackling your heartaches & hang-ups, please email, call, or leave me a voice/text message at my confidential & encrypted HIPAA-compliant phone line using the contact button below. From there, we can begin the journey of rebuilding, healing, & relearning your healthiest self.

You want therapy that respects your feelings & challenges your patterns.
You feel like you’re too much.
(Spoiler alert, you’re not, you’re just carrying too much). Your grief, your voice, your boundaries, & your story likely need more space & time to be honored.
You’re brain feels like a carousel you can’t get off of. You deal with obsessive loops, trauma narratives, worst-case-scenarios, “what ifs,” & a constant impulse to be busy/productive either physically and/or mentally.
You’ve always been an insightful person who feels deeply, thinks deeply, & needs more from therapy than just venting.
You’re a creative, a helper, a caregiver, a perfectionist, a people-pleaser, a compartmentalizer, a fixer, &/or the person everyone comes to with their problems.
You know how to sit with everyone else’s needs & feelings, but not your own.
Spruce & Sparrow Counseling Services
Why Spruce & Sparrow?
Solution Focused-Growth
I want to provide toolbox-building therapy for you, the client, who has likely survived a lot that you shouldn’t have had to. I know that you’re ready to feel real change & healing. That’s why I chose the spruce: a strong evergreen capable of surviving some of the harshest seasons. Despite the elements, the spruce is capable of persistent, sustainable growth. In session, we’ll emphasize your strong roots, aka, your strengths, while maintaining small, yet obtainable moments of growth.
Compassionate Counseling
You deserve therapy that is approachable & kind. In the ornithology world, sparrows are a species of bird known for their intelligence, connectiveness, adaptability, along with their tendencies to communicate with & feed other species of birds. They’re capable of complex vocalizations & even have strategies for self-regulating their nervous systems (they flick their tails to alleviate body tension!). Sparrows represent the flexibility I strive to offer you in session. Good therapy should be bespoke to the client’s readiness, whether you’re ready to jump right in to the deep end, whether you have a deep fear of failure, whether you’re a sensitive soul, whether you endure emotional highs & lows, & whether you’ve been in therapy for years or this is your very first experience.
